Peer support in type 2 diabetes: a randomised controlled trial in primary care with parallel economic and qualitative analyses

This project tested the effectiveness of providing peer support in a group setting to primary care patients with type 2 diabetes.  A similar number of control patients received usual care without peer support. Biophysical and psychosocial measures used before the intervention on both groups were used again following the peer support intervention to discern any differences between the groups.  An economic evaluation was carried out to determine the cost effectiveness of peer support in diabetes in the primary care setting.
