Clinical Biochemistry

Consultant staff from the Clinical Biochemistry Unit contribute extensively to undergraduate medical and scientist education, including lectures and tutorials in clinical biochemistry and metabolic medicine delivered to 2nd, 3rd and 5th medical year students, ward-based teaching, and projects for 2nd medical year students.

Medical students have completed laboratory-based research projects in haematological biochemistry (folate and vitamin B12 investigations), evaluation of hyperglycaemia and diabetic ketoacidosis, use of big-data point of care glucometrics and ketometrics in hospitalised patients, and toxicological testing for drugs of abuse.
