Following the launch of The School of Medicine Undergraduate Research Portal earlier this year, many undergraduates are now undertaking biomedical research in labs across the School. Developed by the School’s Research Directorate, the portal serves as a central resource for students seeking research opportunities, enabling them to identify laboratories that match their interests and connect directly with principal investigators to undertake research projects.
The impact of the initiative is already evident. Three medical students Jayn Eau Lau (Year 3), Soňa Burianová (Year 4) and Dayna Ferguson (Year 3), have conducted research projects over the last number of months in the labs of Dr. Eric Downer (Physiology) and Dr. Sarah Doyle (Clinical Medicine). Reflecting the success of their research experiences, both Soňa and Dayna have now achieved a significant milestone by publishing their first peer-reviewed article.

The Undergraduate Research Portal is creating new opportunities for students to become involved in research that aligns with their academic interests and future career aspirations. By providing direct access to research groups across the School, the initiative helps students gain valuable hands-on experience in laboratory research while contributing to cutting-edge research.
