Economics of Brain Health Group

Economics of Brain Health Group, Dominic Trepel, Trinity College Dublin

Health Economics Ireland, led by Professor Dominic Trépel and based in the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience, applies economics to understand how resources can best be used to improve health and wellbeing. The group’s research spans health and social care, combining economic evaluation, analysis of health data and decision modelling to inform policy and practice in Ireland and internationally.

A core theme is the Economics of Brain Health, encompassing mental health and a broad range of neurological conditions across the life course. We examine the economic and social consequences of poor brain health and assess the value of prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and care at all stages of life.

Working with clinical researchers and policymakers, we use health economics to translate research findings into evidence for policy decisions. Our work guides investment towards interventions and services that offer the greatest improvements in health and quality of life for people affected by brain health conditions and their families.
