Depression Neurobiology Research Group

The Depression Neurobiology Research Group is led by Prof Declan McLoughlin, Research Professor of Psychiatry. We are based in the Dept of Psychiatry and the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience (TCIN). We are a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, post-doctoral research fellows, and postgraduate students. Our work encompasses clinical assessment, neuropsychology, randomised controlled trials, biochemistry and molecular biology.

Our current ongoing projects include:

    • The KARMA-DEP (2) Trial: Ketamine as adjunctive therapy for Major Depression (2) - a randomised controlled trial.
    • CARE-Dep study: Clinical Predictors of Therapeutic Outcome in Electroconvulsive Therapy for Depression
    • Secondary Analyses Study: Secondary Analyses of Anonymised Data from Four Historical Studies of Electroconvulsive Therapy
    • COWORKER Nursing Home Study: Effects of COVID-19 on the mental health and wellbeing of nursing home staff in Ireland
