Biography

I am a neonatologist with a sustained interest in the newborn brain. During training, I was struck by how differently infants respond to neurological injury. Some recover surprisingly well, while others develop seizures, disability, or long-term problems. I work in intensive care, caring for infants with hypoxic-ischemic injury, seizures, and complex medical needs. Daily decisions at the bedside, uncertainty, and conversations with families have shaped my focus on mechanisms of brain injury and recovery.

I am now completing a higher degree in immunomodulation in neonatal encephalopathy. The work combines clinical observations with laboratory studies to explore how inflammation and immune signalling contribute to brain damage and how they might be modified. My aim is to translate scientific findings into new therapies and improve outcomes for affected infants. The possibility of improving recovery and quality of life remains a strong motivation for my research and clinical work.
