  • Title
Patient- Centered MRI for Autistic Children and Children with Intellectual Disability.
    Summary
Awarded SPARK NDTP seed funding for this project with a goal of optimising the experience of Autistic children and children with intellectual disability undergoing MRI. This project has been funded by the NDTP SPARK program for 3000 euros and is centred on improving the experience in MRI of Autistic children and children with intellectual disability. We hope to decrease the need for general anaesthesia in this group which would increase the number of children able to have the examination in a hospital closer to their home, in line with the principles of Slaintecare. We are also looking at staff experience and measures to improve staff experience and retention. This is interdisciplinary work involving paediatric radiologists, radiology nurses and our Autism nurse specialist. As part of this project social stories and videos of the patient journey through MRI are shared with parents and families.
