It is our hope that a summer intern will assist us in rolling out this initiative.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The College Health Service is working with the Trinity Disability Service to provide summer internship opportunities to disabled students in Trinity.

The free contraception scheme was launched in September 2022, firstly at those aged 17-25 and has now been extended to those 17-31 inclusive. Governments have a central role in changing behaviours. By providing free contraception this eliminates any barriers to access for contraceptive healthcare for those within this age range, creating equitable access to contraceptive healthcare for women.

Subsidising or providing free contraception are governments policy instruments to change behaviours, through addressing them directly or influencing their environment. The majority of our student population fall into the age category between 18-25 years of age, which is our patient demographic meaning that the scheme will target a large proportion of our female students. The purpose of this internship will be to analyse how this scheme has impacted the uptake of contraception in the College Health Service, with a view to looking at a behaviour change when cost is eliminated

Development Opportunities

  • The College Health Service a dynamic busy practice, you will gain experience looking in a busy healthcare setting, working with healthcare professionals, looking to statistics, communication, presentation, healthcare polices and how policy influennces healthcare.

Workplan

  • You may be asked to send college wide email doddle poll to collect information for this study and use this information for the purpose of this study.
  • You will be asked to look at statistics generated automatically from software database and compare them on previous years on the uptake of LARC – long-acting reversible contraception and oral contraception and the uptake since this scheme has come into effect and compare the two.
  • You will be asked to look at relevant government healthcare policy
  • You will be asked to create a power point slide on your findings
  • You will be asked to meet with an established working group within College Health to collect relevant information, this working group will be comprising of, one GP, one Nurse, one administrator from College Health and more.
  • You may be asked to present your findings at the end of your internship. The intern’s preference of presentation will be taken into consideration alongside accommodations or support (i.e. presentation skill development) which may be required to deliver this task.

  • Have an interest in ICT skills eg .presenting findings from this study

Desirable

  • Sample: Knowledge of accessibility issues students with disabilities experience in higher education.
  • Sample: Experience of creating engaging social media content (video, audio, imagery) across a variety of platforms and delivering key messaging to a diverse population.
