JOB DESCRIPTION

Student 2 Student is working with the Trinity Disability Service to provide summer internship opportunities to disabled students in Trinity. This internship will support the S2S Orientation preparation process including:

  • Recruiting and supporting the S2S Summer Committee.
  • Preparing, disseminating and marking the S2S Mentor refresher training module on Blackboard.
  • Creating and scheduling social media content for S2S volunteers and incoming first year students.
  • Designing and reviewing volunteer handbook content and formatting.
  • Preparing materials and scheduling of sessions for orientation.

The S2S intern will have a particular remit to ensure that accessibility and inclusivity is paramount in all of the above listed activities.

S2S Summer Committee

  • Recruiting members from existing volunteers.
  • Scheduling meetings.
  • Chairing/co-chairing meetings with committee members.
  • Minuting meeting and ensuring follow-up tasks are properly delegated.
  • Communicating updates between S2S staff (Co-ordinator, Programme Officer and Executive Officer) and the summer committee.

Content design and review

  • Working closey with all S2S staff to reviewing and amend content in S2S volunteer handbooks and on the Blackboard Mentor refresher training module, with a specific remit to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
  • Working closely with the S2S EO to design and schedule social media content for S2S volunteers and incoming Trinity students.

Strategic Planning

  • Working closely with the S2S Co-ordinator and Programme Officer to review the strategic planning from refresher training through to orientation itself, to ensure principles of diversity and inclusivity are upheld for S2S volunteers and incoming first year students.

Requirements

  • Current student connected with the Trinity Disability Service.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of accessibility issues students with disabilities experience in higher education.
  • Experience of creating engaging social media content (video, audio, imagery) across a variety of platforms and delivering key messaging to a diverse population.
  • Understanding of the Student 2 Student programme, including the different volunteer roles and the student-led ethos of the service

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have some prior experience in these skills and an interest in developing them further:

  • Understanding of Accessibility Requirements, for online and printed content, and for in-person meetings and events.
  • Familiarity with the principles of diversity and inclusivity.
  • Social media content design in Adobe and/or Canva.
  • Microsoft Suite Packages e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Teamwork & Communication Skills (verbal & written).

The intern will work closely with members of the S2S Team and regular meetings will occur to enable a constant flow of questions, information sharing and updates.  A weekly personal development meeting with the S2S co-ordinator will also be offered, in which the intern can reflect on their learning do far and any changes/additions they would like to make to their work experience within the S2S service.
