Communicating with Others

Group of students communicating in a lecture theatre

The student role can involve interacting with staff and other students in lots of different ways, course related or otherwise. This may take the form of socialising with classmates, doing group work, contacting a lecturer / supervisor, or emailing a college service. Students with disabilities may also need to discuss a disability related matter with different people in college; either informally by approaching lecturers or students, or formally through the Disability Service or through your college tutor in some instances. OTs are here to help you to develop ways to connect with the people around you in college.

This may include:

  • Finding ways to discuss the impact of your disability either formally or informally in college.
  • Taking part in class discussions
  • Asking questions
  • Emailing lecturers
  • Meeting with supervisors
  • Joining and taking part in societies
  • Doing group projects
  • Engaging with college services
