The Fund for Students with Disabilities (FSD) is a national funding scheme administered by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) that supports eligible disabled students in higher education. The purpose of the fund is to ensure that students with disabilities have the assistance, equipment and supports required to access, participate in and successfully complete their course of study. Funding is allocated to Trinity College Dublin rather than directly to students and is used to provide disability-related educational supports identified through the Disability Service Needs Assessment process. Supports funded through the FSD may include assistive technology, specialist academic support, personal assistance, Irish Sign Language supports, transport assistance and other disability-related educational supports. Students do not apply directly to the HEA for FSD funding; applications are managed by the Disability Service following registration and assessment of need. The FSD is one of the principal national funding mechanisms supporting disabled students in higher education in Ireland.
