Disability Week 2026

This year's message is simple: From Awareness to Action – Making Trinity Accessible for Everyone.

Thursday, 3 December 2026 marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and this year is particularly significant as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
The Convention, adopted in 2006, represents a fundamental shift in how we understand disability, recognising disabled people as rights-holders entitled to equality, accessibility, independence and full participation in society.
Ireland was one of the last EU Member States to ratify the Convention, doing so in 2018, almost 12 years after its adoption. While progress has been made, the anniversary is an important reminder that disability inclusion requires more than commitments and policies. It requires practical action, shared responsibility and a willingness to work together to remove the barriers that disabled people continue to experience.
At Trinity, this is an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved, acknowledge where barriers remain, and strengthen our collective commitment to making our University accessible and inclusive for all students, staff and visitors.
