The funding will support the project SAGES: Sustainable Aviation & Green Energy Scholars Program, an ambitious interdisciplinary initiative co-led by Trinity College Dublin and Dublin City University.

SAGES is a unique doctoral research programme that will support five PhD iScholars undertaking research focused on one of the most significant challenges facing the aviation sector: decarbonisation. Bringing together expertise in aviation policy, finance, engineering, entrepreneurship and sustainability, the programme will investigate the technologies, policies and strategies needed to reduce aviation's carbon footprint and accelerate the transition to greener air travel.

Through a combination of advanced research, stakeholder engagement and applied analysis, the scholars will contribute to the development of practical solutions that support a more sustainable aviation industry.

The programme's interdisciplinary approach will equip the next generation of aviation leaders with the skills required to bridge the gap between scientific innovation, policy development and commercial implementation. By fostering collaboration across academia, industry and government, SAGES aims to strengthen Ireland's position as a global leader in sustainable aviation and contribute to the broader transition towards a net-zero future.
