Science Week and Public Engagement

The School of Physics is committed to sharing the excitement of physics with audiences of all ages through a diverse programme of public engagement and outreach activities. Throughout the year, staff and students participate in national STEM events, school visits, public lectures, and science festivals, bringing cutting-edge research and scientific discovery to communities across Ireland.

Our outreach activities include astrophysics engagement events such as eclipse observations, interactive exhibits, and public demonstrations; participation in national initiatives including European Researchers' Night, Science Week, and the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition; and a regular programme of talks and lectures delivered in partnership with organisations such as the Institute of Physics and Dark Sky Ireland. School of Physics staff regularly visit primary and secondary schools to deliver hands-on demonstrations and introduce students to STEM careers and opportunities at Trinity.

The School of Physics also supports innovative community projects that make science accessible in unique settings, including educational initiatives such as Lego-based STEM activities on the Aran Islands led by Prof. Lewys Jones. Through these activities, we aim to inspire curiosity, promote scientific literacy, and encourage the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.
