Dr. Federica Surace will join the School of Physics at Trinity College Dublin as Assistant Professor on July 1st, bringing with her a strong international research background in quantum science. She earned her PhD in 2021 from the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) and most recently held the AWS Quantum Postdoctoral Fellowship at the California Institute of Technology.
Her research lies at the intersection of condensed matter physics and quantum information, with a particular focus on the non-equilibrium dynamics of quantum many-body systems and the capabilities of quantum simulators. These simulators—ranging from quantum computers to analogue platforms like cold atoms—offer promising new ways to explore complex quantum phenomena that are otherwise computationally intractable.
Dr. Surace has collaborated with leading international experts in quantum simulation and is actively developing tools to simulate high-energy physics and investigate the emergence of thermodynamic behavior in quantum systems. Her appointment marks a significant step forward for Trinity’s quantum research community and reflects the School’s commitment to fostering cutting-edge science.
