Prof. Brian Espey, in conjunction with administrative assistant Clare Masterson received a SDG Champion Award for 2025-2027 from Minister Darragh O'Brien of the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. Prof. Espey is the chairperson of Dark Sky Ireland and this award recognises their work in protecting the night-time environment and promoting reductions in energy use.
