Thin films of sperimagnetic amorphous DyxCo1-x and TbxCo1-x were shown to exhibit unusual toggle switching when irradiated with single 200 fs pulses of 800 nm light. Large switching was observed from the first pulse while subsequent pulses led to partial re-switching of the irradiated area. This paper is the first demonstration of toggle switching in alloys with strong random anisotropy.
