Facilities
The School of Physics is spread over a number of buildings in College, with the newest space residing in the Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices, otherwise known as CRANN. Apart from facilities within the School itself, members of staff in the School have access to the following facilities on or very near campus.
- SNIAM In the SNIAM building we have a well stocked chemistry lab for sample preparation, material studies and electrochemistry.
- CRANN CRANN has a cleanroom, a microscopy centre, a bio-nanophysics facility, a femtosecond (fs) laser laboratory and equipment, such as scanning probe microscopes.
- Optical Analysis Lab The Optical Analysis Laboratory is located in the SNIAM Building. Various techniques are made available for the complete optical characterization of suitable material systems.
- Advanced Microscopy Laboratory The Advanced Microscopy Laboratory (AML) is a custom-built, state-of-the-art 557.4 m² facility, located in the Trinity Technology and Enterprise Campus.
- TCHPC The Trinity Centre for High Performance Computing (TCHPC) provides large-scale supercomputing, high-end computing, data management and visualization facilities.
- Materials Characterisation Facilities The material Characterisation Facility encompasses a number of laboratories in the School of Physics.
