About the Administrators Group

Any college user can log on to any Windows PC computer connected to the College domain. However, if you need to install or remove software or share files or folders, you must have administrative privileges. This requires that you be logged on as a member of the Administrators group.

Only existing Administrators can add usernames to the Administrators group, following the instructions below. If you want to become an Administrator on a college computer, please contact the Registered Owner. For more information, consult Computer Ownership, Administrative Changes and Password Reset Requests page.

Note: The steps below can be carried out only by users already added to the Administrators Group.

Windows 8 and Windows 10

  1. On the desktop, move the cursor to the bottom left corner of the screen, right-click to display the Administrative Tools, and select Computer Management.
  2. In Computer Management window, click the triangle next to Local Users and Groups to expand that list.
  3. Click Groups.
