New students - Setting your password for the first time
After you have activated your computer account at my.tcd.ie, you will receive a message in your Intray with your username and and "Initial Network Login Password". The message will include the steps on how to change your initial password and set up Multi-factor Authentication in Microsoft 365. Full step-by-step instructions are available on our web page for Obtaining your student computer account.
Why do I need to change my password?
Passwords are often broken, stolen or cracked without the knowledge of the victim. For instance, this can happen as a result of a phishing email or through malware.
Very often stolen passwords are not used immediately. If you change your password regularly, even if your password is somehow stolen, the thief does not have the opportunity to use it.
