As part of a licence change this week, Zoom has moved Trinity to a newer version called Zoom Workplace for Education Enterprise Plus.

The Zoom service was originally added to the IT Services portfolio during the Covid-19 pandemic, as it was required in some instances to support the rapid move to remote working, teaching and learning in Trinity. Trinity acquired licences to cover Zoom meetings for staff and students as well as some Zoom webinar licences, which were allocated on request.  

Under the new Zoom product, which comes with a significant higher expense to the University, we have a limited number of licences available for Trinity staff.   

As a reminder, Zoom was made available to support the rapid transition to online activities during the pandemic. It is not integrated with your Trinity computer account, and we do not provide support for its use.   

Current Zoom licence holders 

Current Zoom licence holders in Trinity were separately notified of the licence update last week via email.  Please note that any existing meeting or webinar links you may have set up before the update should not have been affected by this change. 

What has changed?  

The new Zoom staff licence allows you to hold meetings with up to 1,000 participants and to host webinars without the need for a separate paid webinar licence. It also has unlimited cloud storage for recordings and content, enhanced accessibility features, as well as some other new capabilities.  

To limit costs, Zoom accounts that have been inactive for more than 12 months will be automatically deleted. 

Features not available in Trinity  

However, some features of this version are not available in Trinity, including AI powered tools and certain other workspace and hub features.   

The Zoom AI tools do not currently ensure that AI activities are processed within the EU data boundary and to keep our data secure, these features are disabled for now.  

Other platforms 

We encourage you to explore and use the fully supported collaboration and communication platforms already available to you: Microsoft Teams or Class Collaborate. 

We cannot assure that Zoom will continue to be licensed for Trinity after the 2026/2027 academic year.
