How to connect ChromeOS (Chromebook) to the Student Wi-Fi service
The Student Wi-Fi network will provide you with fast, secure internet access.
Those using the service are assumed to have read and agreed to the terms and conditions of the service.
In order to successfully follow the steps below, you must be in an area of Trinity with Wi-Fi coverage.
Please note that our support for the connectivity of Chromebooks to the Student Wi-Fi service is limited to the provision of the steps below. These steps are accurate for the most recent, supported versions of ChromeOS.
If you have a Chromebook which shipped prior to 2019, please be aware that the user interface may be different and we may not be able to assist with connectivity issues that are encountered.
For Chromebooks shipped prior to 2019, Google provide 8 years of support and so if your device is over 8 years old it should be replaced as it is no longer receiving security updates.
Connection steps
- Click the following link to download the certificate file (you can also download this file on another device and transfer it to the Chromebook via USB drive).
- In the Chrome Browser of the device you are installing the certificate on, navigate to chrome://certificate-manager/localcerts/usercerts.
- The Certificate Manager window will be displayed.
- If the page does not display it could be due to an older version of ChromeOS or Make/Model of the device. Try searching for SSL Certs in Settings and look for the option to import a wireless certificate.
- Click Import.
- Or if you see a list of different categories, then beside 'Trusted Certificates' click Import.
- Locate the certificate you downloaded earlier, and click Open.
- In the Certificate authority window that appears, tick Trust this certificate for identifying websites and Trust this certificate for identifying email users.
- Click OK.
- You should now be able to see the certificate in the list of Authorities.
