Re-assigning College-owned computers between staff

If you are arranging for a College-owned computer to be passed from one member of staff to another, please ensure that the device is transferred using the correct process. Doing so protects University data, keeps devices, secure, and ensures the new member of staff received a computer that is ready-to-use.

Quick guide for reassigning a College-owned computer

  1. Review and remove unnecessary data

    • Ensure any files, data, or applications that are not required by the incoming user are removed from the device before it is reassigned.
    • If the incoming user does not require any of the existing data or software, the device may be wiped before it is reassigned. If a device needs to be wiped, you can contact the IT Service Desk and request for the College-managed device to be remotely wiped.
  2. Keep the device up-to-date

    • If the device is not being used immediately, please ensure it is powered on and connected to the internet for several hours at least once a month so that it continues to receive security updates and management policies.

Please note that only the Head of Area is authorised to request that a computer be reassigned to another member of staff.
