Viewing a Blackboard Assignment

Locate the assignment in the Module content area and click on it to open.

The Assignment window will open to the left. This summarises key information, including the Assessment due date, the number of Attempts you have left for this assignment, and the Maximum points available. If your assignment is to be marked using a Rubric, a link to the rubric grid will be provided in the Details and Information section. This will show you exactly how the marks are allocated for parts of the assignment.

Submitting the Assignment

To submit a written assignment, you can type into the submission area, which includes editing tools on the toolbar for formatting. To upload a file, you can either drag and drop it from your computer into the Submission box or select Attachment - represented by the paper clip icon - and browse for a file from your computer to attach documents, such as Word documents, PDFs, and PowerPoint slides. A status window appears to show the progress of the file upload. Your assignment will be automatically saved after two seconds. At this point, you'll also preview your file before submitting it.

  • If you wish to return to the assignment later, click Save and Close. If you have uploaded an assignment but not submitted it, the assignment will automatically be submitted when the due date expires.
  • To submit an assignment, click the Submit button. If you only have one opportunity to submit, ensure that you have uploaded the correct assignment before clicking the submit button.

After pressing the submit button, you will be prompted to confirm.

Click Submit for Blackboard Assignment

You will then see a confirmation notification and will receive an email confirmation. You can also view your submission if you choose to.

Late work

After the due date has passed and you open an assignment, you're alerted that your submission will be marked late. You can view the alert in the Details & Information panel, on the assignment page, and in the submit confirmation window.
