Postgraduate Study Desks
Postgraduate Study Desks - also known as Postgraduate Carrels - are individual study desks in the Library allocated to registered postgraduate students, upon receipt of a completed application form and subject to availability. Other readers may use a desk on the understanding that it must be vacated if the Postgraduate Study Desk holder wishes to use it. Lockers are provided with every Postgraduate Study Desk for storage of (non-Library) personal items.
***Applications for 2024/25 are now open***
Postgraduate Study Desks may be requested by registered Doctoral and Masters students at the beginning of the academic year for the remainder of that year
- Applications for 2024/25 can be made from Monday 9 September. A link will appear here from that date
- Prior to the end of October, desks will be allocated to research students only (i.e., not to taught postgraduate students)
- Demand is always high so allocation of desks can take some time
- From November, any remaining desks will be allocated to taught postgraduate students; it is unlikely that most taught postgraduate applicants will be allocated a desk
- Desks are available in the Lecky, Ussher and former Berkeley Libraries and the Hamilton Library - we aim to locate the reader close to their subject collection if possible
Lockers are provided with every Postgraduate Study Desk for personal items only, not for storage of non-borrowed Library books or journals. Locker keys must be returned by the assigned due date (check your Library account for details). Lost keys or keys that are not returned by the assigned due date incur the following charges:
- Keys not returned by the due date: €50
- Replacement of lost keys: €25
Please inform the appropriate Library staff member (see below) in writing or by e-mail if:
- You no longer require your carrel
- You are no longer a registered student at Trinity College Dublin
- Your address changes
