Conditions of Use

Members of the Library of Trinity College Dublin Information Service must abide by the following Library rules and regulations:

  • Material on loan must be consulted only on the firm's premises and is not for consultation elsewhere
  • Borrowers are responsible for loaned material until the loan has been cancelled in the Library. If a book is not returned within six months of its final due date, the Library of Trinity College Dublin will consider it to be lost and will order a replacement. The borrowing organisation will be required to pay a €200 penalty per book, in addition to the cost of the replacement copy
  • All requests for information or loans must come from a nominated member of an organisation. He/she will be responsible to the Library of Trinity College Dublin for supervising the service and for ensuring adherence to all regulations. If there is a librarian or information officer, it is customary for them to be the nominee
  • Books (to a limit of 20 volumes at a time) may be borrowed for 28 days only, but are subject to recall within 24 hours if requested by another reader. A strict check of the time limit on loans must be observed if borrowing privileges are to be retained
  • If loans cannot be returned by hand, they must be sent by registered post
  • Certain categories of material (reference, bibliography, student text books) are not normally lent, except under exceptional circumstances. This also applies to periodicals. However, articles from periodicals can usually be photocopied, subject to copyright restrictions
  • When requesting photocopies organisation must comply with Irish copyright law. The nominated person is responsible for ensuring that user adhere to copyright regulations
  • All requests for loans or for information may be made by the methods listed under Contact Us
  • Messengers or couriers collecting loans or photocopies must do so between 10.00 and 16.45, Monday to Friday, from the Admissions Counter of the Library. A delivery service is not available, however items can be posted on request, for a charge. Please see Charges
  • In addition clients may apply for a Corporate Visiting Reader's Card. This permits a member of a subscribing organisation access to the Library. The Information Service Reader Application Form) should be signed by the nominated person. An explanatory letter is available
