The Board of Trinity College Dublin has approved a Policy on the Open Licensing of the Library's Digitised Content. This means that where the original material is out of copyright, and not subject to other licence agreements, that the digital images can be used under the terms of a CC-BY 4.0 licence, which allows it to be reused or shared as long as credit is given to The Board of Trinity College.

There are some exceptions to this policy, including The Book of Kells (IE TCD MS 58) so permission for use should still be requested. Publication, transmission or display are prohibited without written approval of the Library of Trinity College Dublin.
