Metadata and Discovery Unit
The Metadata and Discovery Unit is responsible for creating metadata to ensure description and discovery of the Library’s collections. Responsibilities of this unit include:
- Analysing and creating descriptive metadata on the Library's books/ebooks, journals, and electronic resources
- Creating and maintaining the Library records for library items by adding and updating MARC bibliographic records and holdings information
- Creating and applying descriptions, subject terms and classification to records
- Maintaining the quality of the data in the Library catalogue including authority control and building appropriate user reference structures
- Creating original bibliographical records for all Irish legal deposit materials
- Creating original records for contribution to the UK Shared Cataloguing Programme
- Submitting records to the Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO) and Subject Authority Cooperative Program (SACO)
- Liaising with departments across the Library on the application of appropriate descriptive data to ensure discovery of collections
