Trinity Long Room Hub

The Library is a partner in the Long Room Hub, a research institute for the arts and humanities. This is a strategic College initiative building on the excellence of research activity in these fields and specifically to bring the Library’s research resources to the greater attention of scholars in Trinity and internationally.

In October 2007 the Long Room Hub was awarded almost €11 million under the Irish government’s Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions (PRTLI), and the Hub’s research and outreach activities are also attracting significant contributions from philanthropic and other sources.

Library activities under the Long Room Hub include the cataloguing of manuscript collections in the Irish Language and in children’s literature, work on the scientific analysis of the Book of Kells and other medieval manuscripts and a major project digitising and indexing the 1641 Depositions.

The Long Room Hub will focus on the development of digital humanities, using innovative technologies to provide new approaches to the exploration of recorded knowledge.
