The January training material in our cyber security awareness training portal, KnowBe4, is out now! This month we are looking into the concepts of social engineering and becoming part of the human firewall. You’ll learn about the most common social engineering attacks and how to recognise threats and red flags.

What is Social Engineering?

Social engineering is a common technique used by hackers, where they try and manipulate you into taking an action that isn’t in your or your organisation’s best interest, such as giving away confidential information or downloading a malicious attachment to gain illegal access to a computer system. Social engineering attacks may be performed in various ways, including via phone, email, social media, or direct contact.

What is a Human Firewall?

A human firewall refers to the people in an organisation who follow best cyber security practices by preventing and reporting any suspicious activity. The human firewall is the first line of defence against external cyber threats, acting as a barrier between the organisation’s internal network and hackers trying to gain illegal access.
