Biography

Tapas Mishra is a Professor of Banking and Finance and the director of MSc Finance at the Southampton Business School, University of Southampton, UK. An award-winning lecturer and researcher, he is a trained econometrician having obtained an MSc in Quantitative Economics with Distinction under the prestigious European Doctoral Program and a PhD from the Centre for Operations Research and Econometrics (CORE), Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. He was a university post-doctoral fellow in econometrics and macroeconomics at the University of Strasbourg, France. Prior to undertaking university position, Tapas served as a scientist and senior researcher at leading international think tanks, such as the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Technical University of Vienna both in Austria (as scientist) and the Institute for Future Studies in Sweden.

Tapas is the recipient of a number of prestigious scholarships, such as the Ford Foundation-Winrock international Fellowship, CORE Fellowship, IIASA post-doc fellowship, National Scholarship, the Junior Research Fellowship (from the Government of India), and Marie-Curie Fellowship. He has been awarded a number of international and national research projects that include, among others, the Leverhulme Trust, Ford Foundation-Winrock International, and Swedish Research Council. Due to his innovative and transformative teaching, he has received Vice Chancellor and Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching. He has published in world leading journals and is a co-author of a best-selling book on Diffusion of New Technology.

Tapas has successfully supervised eight PhD students, many of whom serve in various senior positions at the IMF, WTO, the European Commission, international think-tanks and universities. Tapas is an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Finance (an ABS 3* ranked journal) and sits on the editorial board of Cliometrica.
