Sean de Burca

Biography

Dr. Seán de Búrca is currently Professor Catedrático Convidado at Universidade da Madeira, Portugal and Adjunct at University College Dublin. Prior to his academic career and following his engineering studies he worked on a number of engineering projects in Ireland, the UK and Australia. He returned to University College Dublin and completed a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and Master of Business Studies Degree in Marketing and received his PhD from University College Galway.

 He held the position of Associate Dean of International Affairs for UCD School of Business in 2004-2005 and was Director of the Executive MBA programme from 1997-2001. He lectures in Global Marketing Strategy, Marketing Management and Global Business-to-Business Marketing in the Universidade da Madeira, Portugal and Adjunct at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business, University College Dublin. He served as chief extern examiner for the University of Ulster and has been extern examiner for Queens University, University of Technology Sydney and the Maastricht School of Management. He has lectured on a number of MBA programs in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Cyprus, Egypt, Rwanda, Peru, Australia, Vietnam, Singapore Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and China.

His main research interest is focused on the management of business relationships in global business markets and he has published widely in books, scholarly management journals and international conferences. He was a council member of The Irish Academy of Management, the Education Committee of The Irish Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management and a member of the Marketing Institute.
