Biography
Owen Small is a member of the Landscape Living Lab, an inter-disciplinary project investigating Nature-based Solutions and Integrated Catchment Management for flood mitigation. His role is looking at human-nature relationships and how these dynamics influence values and valuations relative to ecosystem services and management decisions. Utilising a Natural Capital approach, more specifically ecosystem accounting, he’ll be engaging with stakeholders to develop a socio-ecological understanding of the catchment and communities within.
He has a background in ecology and environmental science, with a BSc from University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and a MSc from University College Dublin, respectively, as well as several years of experience in environmental regulation and land stewardship. More recently, he worked as a research assistant with the ForES project, assessing the natural capital of Irish forests and quantifying their ecosystem services. He is also a member of the All Island Climate and Biodiversity Research Network (AICBRN), BiOrbic — Ireland’s National Bioeconomy Research Centre, and the Business + Nature Hub at Trinity.
