A new initiative of the Trinity Centre for Social Innovation at Trinity Business School and School of Natural Sciences, the Business + Nature Hub connects research, education and business to help organisations understand their relationship with nature and respond to its decline.
Trinity’s Business + Nature Hub brings researchers in business and natural sciences together with leaders from government, society, business and finance to collaborate across disciplines, and support informed action on nature.
The Hub will help businesses understand how their activities affect nature, their dependence on healthy ecosystems and the risks associated with biodiversity loss. Through research, education and engagement, it aims to help organisations build resilience and contribute to nature’s recovery.
Its research spans farming, forestry, marine ecosystems and urban environments. Projects explore questions including how to finance sustainable farming, assess woodland benefits and support an economy that restores nature.
Education is another focus, connecting undergraduate and postgraduate learning with executive education for business and government leaders.
An upcoming event, Business + Nature: The Imperative for Action, takes place at Trinity Business School on 16 November as an associated event of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It will bring government, researchers, business and financial leaders together to examine challenges and emerging solutions for business action on nature.
The event reflects the Presidency’s focus on environmental security, recognising the importance of addressing climate and biodiversity challenges to strengthen economic, health and food security.
