Leadership Development 2 - Uplift existing people management practices and behaviours to amplify leadership influence

Course Overview

The programme aims to strengthen existing managers' capability to influence the delivery of outputs through individuals and teams. The programme will develop their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.

Audience

  • Individuals in management and leadership positions who want to uplift and strengthen existing management and leadership practices and behaviours to amplify leadership influence.
  • SAO2, SAO3, AO1(s), AO2 experienced in role, and equivalent Academic, Research or Technical staff in leadership roles for whom these learning outcomes are relevant as agreed with the person to whom they report.
  • All courses are also open to those who wish to refresh their skills.

Programme-Wide Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the role of manager and leader
  • Understand what motivates and drives human behaviour
  • Understand the impact of your Management Style preferences and how you can use different management styles to be effective with a wide range of stakeholders inside and outside of your team
  • Demonstrate the Coaching Leadership Style to have effective workplace conversations that drive performance, development and ownership
  • Recognise what contributes to an effective team and how to align the team towards its strategic goals and the overall organisational strategy
  • Understand the human response to change and how to support people through that process when implementing change
  • Develop the behaviours for building trust and psychological safety in the team
  • Build confidence in working effectively through conflict

Motivating and engaging teams

  • Motivation theory and practice – Self-determination theory in practice

Module 1 – Day 2

Situational Leadership

  • Delegating ownership and building confidence in people
  • Case study scenarios for group discussions

Bringing a Coaching Leadership style to workplace conversations

Conversation structure and behaviours

  • Setting expectations
  • Questioning & Listening skills
  • Delivering feedback
  • Scenario based practice with collective debrief and learning

Action Planning – Transferring the learning to the workplace

Module 2 – Day 3

Aligning your team with strategy

  • Understanding your role in aligning with the organisational strategy
  • Identify actions that will align your team/unit with the new strategy
  • Engaging your team in initiating action and change.

Change Management

  • The human response to change and how it shows up during organisational change
  • The behaviours to support your through this process
  • Application exercise on dealing with current change initiatives and challenges

Personal Action Planning

  • Transferring the learning to the workplace
  • Building your leadership development

Reconnection online hour long session with facilitator will be confirmed post programme

Time and Commitment

  • 3 day onsite delivery with DiSC Management Profile and 60-minute online group session.
  • Scenario-based practice to develop coaching leadership style.
  • Accountability buddy for peer-to-peer conversations to action plan.
  • Post-course there will be an opportunity to participate in a Community Learning Group.
