Programme Overview

The MSc in Financial Risk Management combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare students for careers in risk-focused roles across finance and industry. Students take core finance modules while developing specialist expertise in identifying, analysing, and managing financial risk. 

The programme is delivered by a blend of academic experts and senior industry professionals, ensuring a strong balance between theory and practical application. Students have the opportunity to work directly with companies on live projects, gaining hands-on experience in tackling real-world risk challenges. They also benefit from access to Bloomberg terminals in a state-of-the-art trading room and participate in trading simulations that mirror real market conditions.

Designed for students with a strong quantitative background, the programme equips graduates to assess financial instruments from a risk perspective and to critically evaluate the role of risk in modern finance. Accreditations

Trinity Business School is an Academic Partner of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), and the MSc in Financial Risk Management is officially recognised by GARP for its alignment with industry standards in risk education. 

Each year, Trinity Business School awards six GARP scholarships to outstanding students. These scholarships cover the enrolment and Part I exam fees and are granted based on Semester 1 exam performance and a short cover letter.

Students from the MSc in Finance and MSc in Financial Risk Management programmes who take the Treasury Management & Derivatives module, taught by Jason Murphy, President of the Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers (IACT), have the opportunity to compete for one of two places on the IACT Graduate Programme.
