When do I need to submit my stipend related forms to ensure I get paid in my first month of registration?
As soon as you receive communication from Academic Registry (for Trinity Research Doctorate Award) or your Supervisor/School Manager / PG Administrator (for external funded / local School / Discipline award), you should refer to the User friendly guide to setting up a stipend and begin completing all necessary stipend forms
To receive payment in your first month:
- Complete and submit the Graduate Student Proposal Form and Scholarship Exemption Declaration Form as follows:
- Trinity Research Doctorate Awardee should submit both the completed forms by replying directly to the email from Academic Registry that issued award offer letter and related documentations.
- External Funded and local School/Discipline Awardee should submit the completed forms to your Supervisor or School Manager/PG Administrator.
Following review, they will be forwarded to HR.
- Ensure you are fully registered for the academic year.
- Update your bank details in the Core HR Portal.
All steps must be completed before the monthly HR stipend payroll deadline.
If I haven’t registered as a student, will I still get paid my stipend?
No, you must be fully registered as a student for each academic year before your stipend can be processed or paid. To avoid delays, make sure you complete your registration as soon as you receive your invitation to register via www.my.tcd.ie.
What are the main reasons a student doesn’t get paid on time?
The most common reasons for delayed stipend payments include:
- Graduate Student Proposal Form and Scholarship Exemption Declaration Form not submitted to HR before the stated deadline.
- Incomplete or incorrect information on all or any of the required stipend forms
- Student is not registered
- Bank details not submitted in the Core Portal by the Student
What if I don’t have an Irish home address yet?
As per the Revenue guideline, you must be resident in Ireland and provide a valid Irish residential address to be eligible for a tax-free stipend payment.
What if I don’t have a PPS Number?
You can still submit your stipend forms without a PPS Number, and this won’t delay the initial setup of your stipend. However, a PPS Number is required for Revenue compliance, so you must apply and provide one as soon as possible after arriving in Ireland.
For information visit the Department of Social Protection website:

Once you receive your PPS Number, please contact the HR Service Desk (HR@tcd.ie) to pass on the details.

Will I get paid once my stipend is setup on Core Portal?

What type of bank account do I need to receive my stipend payment?
