From joining one of Trinity’s many student sports clubs and trying social sport, to taking part in fitness classes and courses or simply fitting a workout or swim into your week, Trinity Sport offers opportunities for all students, whatever your experience, ability or interests.
Welcoming students to the new academic year, Michelle Tanner, Director of Sport and Physical Activity at Trinity College Dublin, said:
“We are delighted to welcome all new and returning students to Trinity for the 2026/27 academic year. Sport and physical activity can play such an important role in the university experience, not only in supporting our health and wellbeing, but in helping us connect with others, develop confidence and feel part of the Trinity community.
“There really is something for everyone at Trinity Sport. Whether you want to compete at the highest level, join a club, try a new activity, attend a fitness class or simply find a way to be more active during your week, I would encourage every student to explore the opportunities available and find something that works for you.”
Katie Lynch, Chairperson of Trinity Sport Union, added:
“Starting a new academic year is a brilliant opportunity to get involved in sport at Trinity. Our sports clubs are about so much more than competition. They are communities where you can make friends, develop new skills, take on leadership opportunities and create some of your best memories from university.
“You absolutely don’t need to have played a sport before to get involved. Many of our clubs welcome complete beginners, so I would really encourage students to come along, meet the clubs and try something new. On behalf of Trinity Sport Union and all of our sports clubs, we’re looking forward to welcoming you into the Trinity sporting community.”
To help students get started, Trinity Sport has created the Trinity Sport Orientation Hub and Student Sport Guide 2026/27, bringing together everything you need to discover sport and physical activity at Trinity.
Find your sport at Trinity
Joining a sports club is one of the best ways to become part of the Trinity community, make friends and represent the University.
With a diverse range of student sports clubs catering for beginners through to experienced athletes, there is something for everyone. Many clubs welcome complete beginners, so starting university can also be the perfect opportunity to discover a sport you have never tried before.
If competitive or club sport is not for you, there are plenty of other ways to get moving. Trinity Sport’s social sport and physical activity programmes provide flexible and accessible opportunities to take part, while the Trinity Sport Centre offers more than 50 fitness classes and courses each week.
From HIIT Cycle, BoxFit and Pilates to yoga, Bootcamp and Core, students can find activities that suit their interests, timetable and fitness level. A range of swimming, climbing, tennis, fitness and wellness courses are also available throughout the year.
Explore your sporting facilities
Trinity students have access to an extensive range of sporting facilities on and beyond the main campus.
At the heart of campus is the Trinity Sport Centre, located at the Westland Row end of College. Facilities include the Fitness Theatre, swimming pool, climbing wall, Main Hall, studios and more.
Students can also discover outdoor and off campus facilities including College Park, Santry Sports Grounds, Iveagh Grounds and Islandbridge, alongside additional sporting spaces across the University.
If you are finding your way around campus for the first time, the Trinity Sport Orientation Hub includes useful virtual tours and wayfinding videos to help you locate our facilities.
Activate your Trinity Sport membership
One of the first things to add to your Orientation checklist is activating your Trinity Sport student membership.
More than 10,000 students activate access to the Trinity Sport Centre facilities each year, opening up opportunities to stay active throughout their time at Trinity.
Eligible students can activate their membership through the Trinity Sport app using their Trinity username and password. Once activated, the app makes it easy to access facilities, book fitness classes, courts and pitches, manage bookings and memberships, and explore selected courses and activities.
Students are encouraged to activate their membership before making their first booking.

Make sport part of your Trinity experience
At Trinity Sport, our vision is to have sport at the heart of the Trinity experience and our mission is to inspire, engage and connect people through sport in a suitable, inclusive and supportive environment.
That experience will look different for every student.
You might discover a completely new sport, represent Trinity in competition, join a club committee, attend your first fitness class, play social sport with friends or simply find a regular way to stay active alongside your studies.
