The Irish senior women’s team will compete against Andorra, Faroe Islands, Scotland, San Marino, Liechtenstein and Malta, with Ireland drawn in Pool A alongside hosts Andorra and Faroe Islands.
Ireland will open their campaign against Andorra at 5.30pm on Friday, 26 June, before taking on Faroe Islands at 12.00pm on Saturday, 27 June. Finals will then take place on Sunday, 28 June.
There is a strong Trinity presence throughout the Irish set up, with Moloney and McNichols representing Ireland on court, while Michelle Tanner, Director of Sport and Physical Activity at Trinity College Dublin, will travel with the team as assistant coach.
Moloney currently plays for both Trinity’s student and club volleyball teams and serves as captain of Trinity Volleyball Club. McNichols, who previously held a Trinity Sport scholarship, remains actively involved with the club and continues to play for the team.
The squad has spent the past year preparing for the competition and will have the opportunity to test themselves against international opposition they have not previously faced.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Moloney said the team is eager to begin the challenge in Andorra.
“As a squad, we have put a huge amount of effort in over the past year and it is really exciting to have the opportunity to play against teams that we have not faced before.”
“It is such an honour to put on the green jersey and represent your country. I am so grateful to be able to train with such an amazing, hard working and dedicated group of women.”
With Trinity strongly represented both on and off the court, the team will look to build on months of preparation and embrace a new challenge on the international stage this weekend.
