His study, with Prof Fazilat Siddiq of the University of South-Eastern Norway, investigates the use of process data and artificial intelligence in digital assessments. These approaches, including monitoring time spent by students on individual questions and the pathways students take through tests, offer potential benefits to examinees and teachers but also pose ethical and legal challenges. Murchan and Siddiq developed a code of ethics to guide the use of process data in educational assessment. 

 

The annual meeting of the Association for Educational Assessment-Europe (AEA-Europe) will be held in Dublin in November 2022, co-hosted by Trinity College and the Educational Research Centre, Drumcondra.
