Trinity Sailing at Oxford Top Gun invitational January 2026

In January 2026, Trinity Sailing secured overall victory at the Top Gun Invitational the most prestigious university team racing event in the British Isles to which only the best UK and Irish teams are invited.  The victory marked the first time Trinity sailing won the event and only the second time the event was won by an Irish team.  The intervarsity event was hosted by Oxford University Sailing Club at Farmoor Reservoir near Oxford over two days and featured eight university teams including UCD Sailing competing in challenging winter conditions on one of the UK’s premier inland sailing venues.

The competition was sailed in a demanding three-round round-robin format with each crew completing a total of 21 races across the weekend.  As teams rotated through a packed schedule that tested boat handling, tactical decision-making and endurance consistency and depth across squads proved decisive.  Trinity Sailing delivered a strong performance throughout the fleet racing stages to progress to the final series.

A histoic all-Irish final between Trinity Sailing and UCD Sailing highlighted the continued strength of Irish university sailing on the international stage.  Racing in the best of five finals, Trinity won the first three races to claim the Top Gun Trophy.  The winning Trinity team consisted of Sam Ledoux, Georgia Goodbody, Trevor Bolger, Conor Lynch, Harry Twomey and Orla Gilroy.  UCD were represented by Conor Gorman, Lily O’Dwyer, Jacques Murphy, Kate O’Connor, Archie Daly and Emily Khan.
