Trinity Sailing secured overall victory at the Top Gun Invitational, hosted by Oxford University Sailing Club at Farmoor Reservoir near Oxford in January 2026. The prestigious intervarsity event was contested over two days and featured eight university teams including compatriots UCD racing in challenging winter conditions on one of the UK’s premier inland sailing venues.
The regatta was sailed in a demanding three-round round-robin format with each crew completing a total of 21 races across the weekend. As teams rotated through a packed schedule that tested boat handling, tactical decision-making and endurance consistency and depth across squads proved decisive. Trinity Sailing delivered a strong performance throughout the fleet racing stages to progress to the final series.
An all-Irish final between Trinity Sailing and UCD Sailing highlighted the continued strength of Irish university sailing on the international stage. Trinity completed a clean sweep of races to claim the Top Gun Trophy. The winning Trinity team consisted of Sam Ledoux, Georgia Goodbody, Trevor Bolger, Conor Lynch, Harry Twomey and Orla Gilroy. UCD were represented by Conor Gorman, Lily O’Dwyer, Jacques Murphy, Kate O’Connor, Archie Daly and Emily Khan.
The Top Gun Invitational is regarded as one of the standout events in the university sailing calendar and this result marks a significant achievement for Trinity Sailing as they continue to compete successfully against leading programmes from across the UK and Ireland.
