Trinity Sport Centre was recently awarded an ‘Outstanding Facility’ National Quality Standard Award for 2026 by Ireland Active, the representative body for the leisure, health, and fitness industry. The prestigious awards recognise excellence and commitment to quality within Ireland’s leisure, health, and fitness industry.
This is the twelfth consecutive year that Trinity Sport Centre has received the ‘Outstanding Facility’ National Quality Standard Award by Ireland Active. The National Quality Standard Awards (previously known as the White Flag Awards), have been in operation since 2001 and are the only industry specific award for the Leisure, Health, and Fitness sector in Ireland. They are the most sought-after and respected accolades in the industry and awards across the three levels of Outstanding (gold), Exceeded (silver) and Achieved (bronze).
Commenting on the award Michelle Tanner, Director of Sport and Physical Activity at Trinity College Dublin, said: “Trinity Sport are delighted to have been awarded an 'outstanding facility' award for 2026, the highest category in the National Quality Award for leisure centres, by Ireland Active. This is the twelfth consecutive year to receive the award at this level, a remarkable achievement given the level of operations which have risen in recent years.”
“The award is also a reflection of the commitment and support from other areas in college such as Estates and Facilities who help us deliver the highest standards. We are very proud to win this award and we wish to thank our customers and the wider Trinity College Dublin community for their continued support.”
Karl Dunne, CEO of Ireland Active commented, “The success of the National Quality Standard is a true reflection of the dedication and professionalism of our members nationwide. Each year, facilities go above and beyond to deliver safe, high-quality experiences that support healthier, more active communities. The Conference and Awards are a celebration of that excellence and of our shared commitment to raising standards, enhancing safety, and delivering outstanding service across the sector.”
This year’s awards ceremony, held at the The Johnstown Estate, Co. Meath, brought together industry leaders, operators, and policymakers to share best practices, celebrate achievements, and shape the future of the health and fitness sector in Ireland. The awards reward excellence for facilities in the sector that meet the operational standards across 250 quality-based criteria and are endorsed by Sport Ireland. Participants include local authority, private and hotel leisure facilities. Ireland Active provides support for the awards in standards, programmes, Garda vetting and training. In 2019, Ireland Active established the first industry specific Skill-Net to assist members in accessing discounted industry training.
