We are delighted to celebrate recent Trinity athletes' successes across rugby, volleyball and rowing - making their mark both at home and abroad.
Rugby
Three Dublin University Football Club (DUFC) standout stars Ryan Baird, Paddy McCarthy, and Thomas Clarkson have been named in the Ireland Men’s 32-man squad for the two-Test Summer tour of Georgia and Portugal in July. This marks Paddy McCarthy's first senior call up after impressing for Leinster as well as the Emerging Ireland squad earlier this season. This will be the sixth time that Ireland will face Georgia, while it will be the inaugural international senior Men’s match against Portugal. The selection of these three DUFC players to the national team is a testament to the strength of Trinity’s rugby programme and its commitment to developing elite talent.
In another historic moment for DUFC, Moira Flahive (shown right) has been appointed President of Leinster Rugby for the 2025/26 season. Moira, a dedicated supporter of both Trinity and Leinster Rugby, was officially confirmed in her new role following the Leinster Branch AGM at Old Wesley RFC. She becomes a strong ambassador for the game and for Trinity, and we wish her every success in the year ahead.
Rowing
Trinity Sport Scholar Grace Healy added to the celebrations with an outstanding victory at the London Metropolitan Regatta, winning the Women’s Championship Single Scull (1x) on Saturday. A dedicated athlete and a leading member of Dublin University Ladies Boat Club (DULBC), Grace's success marks another step in a stellar rowing career.
Healy is also preparing for an exciting new chapter, as she is set to pursue a Master’s degree at the University of Tennessee, USA, beginning later this year. DULBC recorded further strong performances at the London Metropolitan Regatta including a third-place finish in the Championship 2- on both Saturday and Sunday.
Volleyball
There was also cause for celebration in Trinity’s Volleyball Club as Samuel Harman, Ciagan Davoren and Jan Comendant were all selected to represent Ireland’s Senior Men’s National Team at the 2025 Small Countries Association Senior Men Championships in San Marino.
Samuel Harman, a Trinity Sport Scholar, and club teammates Ciagan Davoren and Jan Commandant have been instrumental in the Trinity Volleyball squad’s strong 24/25 season, where the club secured third place in the Volleyball Ireland Men’s Premier Division, the top division in the country. Their continued progress and international selection highlight the growing stature and competitiveness of volleyball within Trinity Sport.
These achievements reflect the continued excellence of Trinity Sport’s athletes and programmes across a range of disciplines. Congratulations to all our athletes on their success and we look forward to following their continued journeys in the months ahead!
