On Tuesday 13 May 2025, Trinity College Dublin played host to a special Trinity Access Programmes (TAP) Sports Day, welcoming 130 primary school children from six TAP-linked schools. The 5th and 6th class students enjoyed a collaborative outreach event designed to introduce them to a variety of sports and experience the historic Trinity campus in a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
The students participated in a diverse schedule of activities throughout the day, including climbing, fencing, volleyball, basketball, futsal, and roundnet. Each session was structured to ensure that every child had the opportunity to try something new, be active, and embrace the spirit of teamwork and inclusion. The students played some sports, like futsal, at Trinity's Botany Bay, while roundnet took place in the sunshine of College Park.

The TAP Sports Day is a key part of the ongoing partnership between Trinity Access Programmes and the Trinity Sport Centre. This initiative aims to make university life more visible and accessible to young students from underrepresented and disadvantaged communities.
The schools that participated in the event were: South City Community School, O'Connells, Marist Primary from Crumlin, Drimnagh Castle Primary, Our Lady of Good Counsel Boys National School, and Our Lady of Good Counsel Girls National School.

Warren Farrell, TAP Primary Outreach Coordinator, emphasised the importance of the event, stating, "Days like the TAP Sports Day are about more than just fun and games. They're also opportunities for many young students to see themselves in a university setting, to feel welcome, and to begin imagining their futures at places like Trinity. By engaging students from TAP linked primary schools, the aim is to build early connections that will carry through to TAP's work with their future secondary schools that are also linked to TAP, helping to form pathways for them on their journey into higher education in the future."
