• Midwives

• Allied Health professionals working in a perinatal setting or with an obstetric population
• Clinician’s working in the area of women’s heath
Why should I take this Micro-credential?
Clinicians working in a maternity care setting, women’s health clinics, general practice, who have regular contact with individuals in the perinatal period or in specialist perinatal mental health services would all be excellent candidates for this course.
When can I start this Micro-credential?
There is one intake per year in January.
What do I need to be accepted onto this Micro-credential?
Entry requirements & Prerequisite documents. Undergraduate degree in a relevant health related area.
What will I learn?
On completion of this course clinicians will
• Have a deep understanding of psychological birth trauma,
• Will be equipped to assess and identify women who have psychological birth trauma,
• They will be aware of how the health system can contribute to birth trauma and steps that can be taken to minimise this negative impact.
• They will be aware of the principles of trauma informed care and will be reflective of their own practice and that of the institution they work in
• Will be able to support a women with psychological birth trauma in the maternity care setting
• Will be aware of the different treatment modalities and how to access them.
How will this Micro-credential be delivered?
There will be 6 in person teaching days with complimentary on line material and learning resources to support learning. The delivery of this course with be highly interactive and focused on clinical practice. It will draw on your expertise and clinical experience in the field to ensure that the teaching is relevant to your clinical practice. The course will also have a strong emphasis on trauma informed care, reflective practice, and patient and public involvement.
How is this Micro-credential assessed?
There will be a formative reflection portfolio based on your clinical practice, elements of this will feed into a summative essay.
