The Department of Hispanic Studies will run European Portuguese language and culture courses. These courses are developed in accordance with the provisions of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) at the following levels:
Beginners – Level A1: This course gives learners a basic knowledge of Portuguese language, culture, and contemporary society. Students should learn to make themselves understood in everyday conversational situations and be able to read and write simple Portuguese texts.
Beginners – Level A2: This course is offered to learners who already have the required basic knowledge of Portuguese grammar and some communicative competence – it aims to develop their communicative capabilities in all language areas through the study of Portuguese culture.
Intermediate – Level B1: This course is offered to learners who have completed the beginners courses. The aim is to reinforce and further develop students’ linguistic and cultural knowledge.
Time and Place
All courses are offered subject to minimum registration numbers. Students will require adequate internet access and audio/visual equipment (e.g., computer, camera and microphone).
Beginners – Level A1: Tuesdays 6:30 p.m. – 8.00 p.m., online.
Beginners – Level A2: Wednesdays 6:30 p.m. – 8.00 p.m., online.
Intermediate – Level B1: Thursdays 6:30 p.m. – 8.00 p.m., online.
The course runs for 22 weeks, divided into two 11-week terms. The autumn term starts in October and the spring term starts in January.
€600 for a 22-week course (1.5 hour once a week), payable in two €300 instalments at the start of each term. This includes course materials. This fee is non-refundable once the course has commenced.
