Careers, Employability and Work-based Learning Module (10 ECTS)

Welcome to Trinity Careers Service's accredited modules for PhD students, offering you practical supports and guidance for career planning and personal development. This module includes a Skills Audit Tool, workshops in two streams (Careers and Skills), a range of engaging in-person and online sessions, and support to prepare you for a self-sourced 100 hour Work-Based Learning opportunity. Whether you are aspiring to a career in academia or industry, this module is designed to help you with your next steps. By the end of these modules, you'll have honed critical reflection skills in the context of your career, developed your career path, built connections with your PhD peers across multiple disciplines, and engaged in and reflected upon a work-based learning experience.

Module Description

The module comprises a Skills Audit Tool with a Guide to completing the Skills Audit and Reflective pdf to help you make the most of the reflection, and a suite of workshops in three streams - Careers, Skills and Work Based Learning. Students will undertake a combination of face-to-face and recorded online sessions on the following topics:

Careers Stream

  1. Designing your Career (face-to-face)
  2. Navigating the Emotions of Planning and Managing your Career (recorded online)

Skills Stream

  1. Mapping Skills onto Career Options (face-to-face)
  2. The Art and Craft of a great CV and Writing an Effective Cover Letter (recorded online)
  3. Networking with Confidence (face-to-face)
  4. Presenting your Best Self at Interview (recorded online)
  5. Intercultural Competence and the Global Workplace (recorded online)

Work-based Learning Stream (10 ECTS module only)

  1. Preparing for your Work-based Learning Experience (recorded online)
  2. Reflecting on your Work-based Learning Experience (face-to-face)
  3. Complete 100 hours Work-based Learning in the form of a mini internship, a consulting project or another suitable experience
