Personal Development Programme

The Personal Development Programme (PDP) is a career development programme tailored to the students of individual departments. Its focus is on imparting the importance of life-long learning and developing the set of key skills which support students in their career planning activities into the future.

Skills developed through PDP

  • Self-appraisal and reflection - students reflect upon and develop a profile of their own skills, values and interests developed through their academic curriculum and broader experiences including co- and extra- curricular activities. This is an opportunity for students to reflect on a range of graduate attributes that support academic performance and career development.
  • Research – understanding how to identify opportunities for employment and further study, and identifying the support required to achieve goals
  • Decision making - identifying personal priorities and constraints and integrating self-assessment with the options available.
  • Goal setting and action planning - writing and implementing an action plan. Communicating effectively orally and in writing to achieve objectives. Reviewing progress and identifying learning points.

The full PDP programme, which is run in collaboration with Disciplines or Schools, includes a combination of seminars, online tools, careers evenings or talks by alumni.
