Careers Fairs

Attending a careers fair is an essential first step in looking for work after university. During the Fair, you will have the opportunity to meet with leading graduate employers and find out about careers in a wide range of different sectors. You can discuss graduate or internship opportunities with national and international organisations, or simply drop by to talk informally with recruiters about your career plans. Employers often bring their junior trainees to attend the Fairs. Trainees are normally Trinity alumni, and can be a great source of information. Make the most of this chance to speak to a peer who was exactly where you are only a couple of years ago!

How do I register for the Fair?

Sign in to MyCareer to register for the Fair - https://mycareerconnect.tcd.ie

Once signed in to MyCareer, you will be able to view digital employer stands, do your research and search jobs. Employers will continue to update their job listings so check back regularly for updates.

Keep an open mind and explore all employers attending. Companies you might never have heard of could have great opportunities for you!

How do I prepare to attend the Fair?

To make the best of your time at the Careers Fair, follow these simple steps to get prepared:
Research organisations attending the Fair and the roles on offer. Find out if their working culture is a good fit for you, and whether they share your values and ethics. It might surprise you that tech firms need language graduates, Pharma companies need computer science graduates, and some employers will hire you, no matter what discipline you are in! Take a chance on a small firm or lesser-known company. They have great roles on offer.

What should I say to recruiters at a Fair?

Prepare to introduce yourself. Prepare an ‘elevator pitch’: a 30 second introduction to you, your skills and interests. Make sure you’re prepared by doing some research on the company in advance and be ready to make a good first impression by talking about relevant aspects of your degree, skills, and experience. You never know what could come from the conversation.

Come prepared with some questions to ask the recruiters about their internship opportunities, for example, what the role might entail over the course of the programme. Is it rotational? You could find yourself working in several different departments over the time!

What if the Fairs aren’t for me?

Trinity Careers Fairs are for everyone, no matter what subject you study. While some companies do hire students in specific disciplines, many employers attend the Fairs to meet students from all kinds of backgrounds. Diversity is what makes their companies great places to work, and they need people just like you.
