Careers Fairs

Attending a careers fair is an essential first step in looking for work after university. During the Fair, you will have the opportunity to meet with leading graduate employers and find out about careers in a wide range of different sectors. You can discuss graduate or internship opportunities with national and international organisations, or simply drop by to talk informally with recruiters about your career plans. Employers often bring their junior trainees to attend the Fairs. Trainees are normally Trinity alumni, and can be a great source of information. Make the most of this chance to speak to a peer who was exactly where you are only a couple of years ago!

All our Trinity Careers Fairs 2021 will be held online using the Graduateland platform and are open to students of all disciplines.

What companies will be attending?

Log in to Graduateland with your Trinity ID and browse the exhibitor stands at each Fair to see the employers attending.

MyCareer has an overview of those companies who have registered to attend so far.

What do I need to do on Graduateland in advance of the Fair?

  • Complete your registration with Graduateland and build your profile, which employers will be able to see

  • Browse the employer virtual stands, do your research and search jobs

  • Pre-book video conversation appointments with employers you are interested in talking to

  • Identify employers you would like to have a live text chat with during the Fair

  • Plan to attend the presentations taking place during the Fair

  • Keep an open mind and explore all employers attending. Companies you might not have heard of yet could have great opportunities for you!

How do I prepare to attend the Fair?

To make the best of your time at the Careers Fair, follow these simple steps to get prepared:

Research organisations attending the Fair. Read the information on the virtual stands and on company websites. Familiarise yourself with their products/services. Find out if their working culture is a good fit for you, and whether they share your values and ethics. Take a chance on a small firm or lesser known company! They have great roles on offer.

Check your tech. Make sure that you have a laptop or computer with a working video camera and microphone. Find a quiet place to set up, and make sure the lighting is right.

Prepare to introduce yourself. Prepare an ‘elevator pitch’: a 30 second introduction to you, your skills and interests. Come prepared with some questions to ask the recruiters, and to demonstrate your knowledge and interest in the company.

What do I do on the day of the Fairs?

Ensure your Graduateland profile is completed with the info you want to provide to employers. Employers may reach out to you during the Fair if they think your profile is a match for their roles. If you get such notifications but cannot speak at that time or do not wish to speak to that employer, message back to reschedule or politely decline.

Make sure you have a quiet space for your scheduled video conversations with employers.

Practice good online professional etiquette when speaking/messaging with employers online.

Make yourself aware of the live presentations taking place during the Fair. The Careers Service will hold an opening event and there will also be student-led panel discussions with Trinity alumni working across diverse jobs and sectors.

How do I engage with employers at the Fairs?

You can engage with employers through pre-bookable 1-1 video conversations and/or via the live online text chat function during the Fair.

Some employers will also have presentations running in their breakout rooms and/or will be running group chats on specific topics. Browse their virtual stands to find out more.

Graduateland have an excellent knowledge base which will help you get fair ready and make the most of your time at the Fair. Check out this link to find out more.

Is the 1-1 video conversation with an employer an interview?

No, it is an informal chat with the employer to help you find out more about the company and the roles/graduate programmes they have available. Make sure you’re prepared by doing some research on the company in advance, and be ready to make a good first impression by talking about relevant aspects of your degree, skills, and experience. You never know what could come from the conversation!
