Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Application for Module Exemption
RPL can be used to apply for exemption from some programme modules, that may have been completed during previous studies.
As part of the RPL application, you must upload the following documents to your TCD application portal. These should be uploaded to the application portal, together with your other application documents:
- Transcript of module result(s)
- Module descriptor(s)
As per the TCD Recognition of Prior Learning Policy, both your transcript and module descriptor will be sent to the Course Coordinator, Director of Postgraduate Teaching and Learning and the Module Leaders for review.
Once it is deemed that there are sufficient similarities between the other University module(s) and TCD module(s) for which you are seeking to be exempt from, it will then be sent to the Dean of Graduate Studies for final approval. Module exemption is only confirmed once you receive a confirmation email.
More information and documentation may be required on request by the course team and/or Dean of Graduate Studies. Should additional information be required, you will be notified via email by the Postgraduate Team.
Please complete the form below in as much detail as possible.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
It is mandatory that you ensure all information is accurate for the Postgraduate Department to process your RPL application. You will be notified via email if your application needs to be resubmitted should there be any discrepancies.
RPL applications for the 2026_27 academic year must be completed no later than 30 September 2026 (subject to change).
Applications received after this date will not be processed for the current academic year.
